Personal Essay: On Beauty, Art, and Invention
Maybe this is how I worship: making beautiful things because I want (need?) them to exist. I visualize them, like a sudden dream, and then I have an intense and spiritual experience bringing them here to earth.
Maybe it's a continuation of nature; maybe the same forces that created all the rocks and creatures of the earth now stir in me, and all other artists and inventors. In this way I feel connected to it all: this creative force is like some divine glue that binds the universe and moves us all forward. To contribute to the collective reality -- to express love to the universe, the stars and sand and strata that we came from -- I can think of no nobler pursuit. When you behold a beautiful object, or person, or creation, you don't need to wonder if life has meaning. You can just see it, right there. You are beaming that love back into the past that brought you here, and its beams echo also into a more beautiful future, reflecting and refracting into eternity.
Through the creative process, we join the collective conversation of reality; we expand it, we shape it, we make it our own -- and by doing so, we become a creative force of nature ourselves. ♡
A/N: This short essay was inspired by the thoughts expressed in this amazing Youtube video by Academy of Ideas, and the experience of creating my "Ferrochamber" which I am so excited to document here when the first prototype is complete.
